Background: the complex care of the critically ill person requires the need for areas of specialization in Nursing that provide nurses with enhanced skills, allowing the provision of individualized and specialized care. Objective: map knowledge about the impact of specialized nursing in the care of people in critical situations. Methodology: a scoping review was carried out, proposed by The Joanna Briggs Institute, and developed following this approach: definition of the objective, research question and inclusion criteria; research, selection and analysis of publications; summary of results. The databases included were: EBSCOhost (MEDLINE, CINAHL Complete, eBook Collection), SciELO and Science Direct. The research included publications between 2017 and 2021, with the review of five scientific articles. Results: the studies described the positive effects of specialized nursing care in the context of caring for the patient in a critical situation. Conclusion: specialized nursing care in a critical patient situation increases the person's overall satisfaction levels, allows the timely identification of complications, reduces the length of stay and furthermore, the costs associated with care and the time to start treatment.
