Digital Preservation and Archiving
Digital Preservation and Archiving Policy
RIIS ensures permanent access to, and long-term preservation of, all published content, irrespective of the continuity of the journal, the platform or the publisher.
1. Preservation mechanisms
- PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN): distributed, permanent archiving of published content through the Public Knowledge Project preservation network integrated into OJS.
- LOCKSS / CLOCKSS: replication of content across multiple institutional nodes, providing geographical redundancy.
- RCAAP: metadata and full text are harvested by the Portuguese Open Access Scientific Repository via the OAI-PMH protocol.
- Institutional backups: the publisher maintains periodic backups of the journal database and files, with integrity verification.
2. Persistent identifiers
Every article is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) deposited with Crossref, guaranteeing permanent link resolution even if the domain or platform changes.
3. Self-archiving
Articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). Authors may deposit any version of the article — submitted, accepted or published — in institutional or subject repositories, or on personal pages, with no embargo, provided the original source and DOI are acknowledged.
4. Interoperability
The journal exposes its metadata through the OAI-PMH protocol, in Dublin Core and compatible formats, enabling harvesting by aggregators, libraries and indexing services.
5. Cessation of publication
Should publication cease, the publisher undertakes to keep the archive openly accessible, to maintain DOI resolution and to transfer the content to a preservation service or institutional repository that guarantees permanent access.
