Abstract

ackgroung: in order to carry out any intervention in the psychiatry or clinical psychology field, psychiatric and psychological evaluations must first be carried out in order to establish an initial reference diagnosis. Objective: to certify the psychometric potential and clinimetric of the use of projective methods in psychological evaluation, in terms of deepening of the intrapsychic dynamic, prognosis, predictability of the treatment adherence and therapeutic evolution, compared with the instruments of self-report. Methododoly: it was used a clinical sample of 10 patients with diagnosed psychiatric pathology received in General Outpatient of Magalhães Lemos Hospital. Data were collected using: a questionnaire of sociodemographic data, that has been built for this purpose; an application of Symptom Checklist 90 - Revised (SCL 90 - R - Derogatis, 2002); and the administration of the projective test of Rorschach (Chabert, 1998; Marques, 2001). Results: the results suggest that the Rorschach test is a tool that enables the identification of discrete psychopathological indicators that may be not noticed in self-report questionnaires. Conclusion: it was found that the projective techniques are indicated to complete the process of psychodiagnosis, providing deeper indicators of the functioning of the personality and its resources.
