Background: the Stroke or Cerebral Vascular Accident (CVA) is a pathology and with a high impact. Objectives: assess the functionality leveis in people six months after suffered from a CVA and analyse the relation between the variables sacio demographics, clinical and family functioning. Methodology: it is a non experimental, cross sectional, descriptive correlational and quantitative study. lt was dane a non-probabilistic sample per convenience formed by 72 people who have suffered from CVA more than 6 months and are followed in the clinic of Sousa Martins Hospital in Guarda. For the variable measurement the toai used for the sample collection combines a sociodemographic and medical section, the Barthel lndex and the Apgar Family Scale. Results: it was noticed that age, gender, cohabitation and the family incarne are profoundly related with people functionality capacity in some dimensions. ln the sarne way alcohol habits, smoking habits, diabetes mellitus, stress and hypertension affect equally in that capacity as well as the brain area obstructed/affected. Conclusion: evidence found in this study highlight the paradigm which risk factors are associated to a worse functional capacity in people who suffered CVA. Following this idea, implementation of preventive measures controlling these factors, promoting good health habits and the early starting of structured rehabilitation programs are fundamental in the minimisation of the negative impact that CVA causes in people's quality of life.
